Assam Police Bust Major Drug Syndicate, Seize ₹120 Crore in Narcotics

Major Drug Haul and Arrests

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Police, in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), executed a series of raids on Friday that led to the seizure of narcotics valued at over ₹120 crore. The operation took place across two districts in Assam—Karimganj and Cachar—and resulted in the arrest of four individuals believed to be key players in the drug syndicate.

Details of the Seizure

The raids uncovered a substantial cache of drugs. In Karimganj district, police seized approximately 3,50,000 Yaba tablets and 1.3 kg of heroin, concealed within 100 soap cases in the hidden compartments of a 12-wheeler truck. The total value of these drugs is estimated at around ₹115 crore. Additionally, in Cachar district, authorities recovered 18,000 Yaba tablets worth ₹5.5 crore from a location in Silchar.

Arrested Suspects

The arrested individuals have been identified as Noimul Haque, Fuzail Ahmed, Atiqur Rahman (alias Atik), and Jagajit Deb Barma (alias Barman). The operation followed a tip-off, leading to the successful dismantling of this major drug network.

Assam Police IG Parthasarathi Mahanta confirmed the details of the seizure and the substantial value of the recovered narcotics. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and curb illegal drug activities in the region.
